Ruth Roman (n e Gold) was born at Lynn in Massachusetts. The parents of her were Lithuanian Jewish Mary Pauline and Abraham Roman. Her father was a carnival barker, passed away when she was a small child, forcing her mother to help support the family by being waitress or cleaning lady. Ruth was raised in a tenement community that was poor in Boston, Massachusetts, where she attended school. However, she left school after just two years in order to pursue an acting career. The route she took did not come without challenges. In New York, her first job involved posing stills for crime magazines, acting work she longed to do was abyssal. After a brief stint as a club hat girl after which she decided to come back home and quit her job. There she was able to earn a living working as an usherette during the during the day and then at night was a part of the New England Repertory Company. It was her first acting job. She has also graduated from Bishop-Lee Theatre School, where she was a drama student.
